Biographical Notes

Gordon Stanley Walters was the eighth son of John Harris and Alice Ross (née Fergusson) Walters. His mother died at Orari eight days after the birth of her twelfth child. Gordon married Kate Mary Hooper in 1919 at Temuka. He was serving with the 2nd South Canterbury Regiment, with which he went to camp. His brother Clarence was killed in action in 1916 at the Somme. Three other brothers served in World War I - Herbert, Leonard and Sydney.
