Biographical Notes

John Dennis Murphy was the eldest son of Denis (Dennis) Murphy and Matilda née Murphy. He was baptised Catholic on 19 February 1893 at Timaru. He was educated at the Timaru Catholic School and Makikihi School before moving to Dannevirke in 1905. His brother, Michael Joseph Alexander Murphy also enlisted.
