Biographical Notes

Prior to the war Henry Tollan was already serving as a soldier, his address being care of the Defence Office in Timaru. He was married to Myrtle Alice (William/Jones?) in Timaru on 29 December 1916 by Rev Rogers.

Henry's service records recorded his intended address as Balmoral Hotel, YTimaru, which was changed to 9 Clyde Street, Timaru (dated 8/2/21). He was posted to the NCOs of the 22nd Reinforcements as a corporal on 23 August 1916. Shortly after he was trabsferred to the 23rd Reinforcements, where he was promoted to sergeant in August 1917.
