Biographical Notes

Edward John Thoreau, 75799, was the son of Edward John and Susan (née Gibson) Thoreau. He was educated at Timaru Main and Timaru South schools until the family moved to Palmerston North in 1905. Edward married Katherine Marie Olsen on 4 June 1917 at Palmerston North. Like his father Edward junior joined the Mounted Rifles and hoped to meet his father abroad.
