Biographical Notes

George Bartrum Baker, known as Bartrum, was the son of George Tom and Fanny Matilda (née Bartrum) Baker. He was educated at Hororara and Albury schools before going on to the Timaru High School at the age of 13. He was awarded the Military Medal on 31 October 1917, his father, then of "The Brothers", Albury, receiving notification from the Minister of Defence. The award of the Distinguished Conduct Medal on 15 September was notified in the London Gazette of 30 October 1918. And in 1953 Bartrum was awarded the Coronation Medal.
