Biographical Notes

George Patrick Niall was the son of Daniel William and Noah (née Carroll) Niall. He married Esther Davidson on 27 December 1920. His brother Gerald Hugh Niall, who was nominated as his next-of-kin, also served in World War I. Brother Thomas Niall was called up for service. Corporal Niall, who had been severely wounded, was warmly welcomed home in February 1916 by the Timaru Hibernian Society. Five times he had gone out to bring in wounded comrades, The fifth time he was hit by a bullet which took away part of his jaw-bone. [Timaru Herald, 16 February 1916\
