Biographical Notes

John Christopher TWOMEY, known as Christopher or Chris, was the second son of Jeremiah Matthew and Teresa Mary (née HUGHES) TWOMEY, of Temuka. Christopher ahd enlisted at the outbreak of war and engaged with the Samoan Detachment. It is unclear whether or not he went on to Egypt. He was discharged at his own request on 15 April 1915, at which time he was described as of very good character. A Certificate of Discharge was issued in May 1915 after 245 days of service abroad. It was another 5½ years before his medals were issued.
