Biographical Notes

George Cowles, the son of John Cowles, was born in 1880 at Oamaru. He was educated there at the Waiareka School and the Oamaru South School, before moving to the Timaru Main School in May 1895 and leaving later that year for work. He married Mary Ann Williams in 1901 at St Mary's Church, Timaru.
