Biographical Notes

Jack Oldfield was the son of Frederick Richard Oldfield and his wife Frances Mary née Hawke. Jack attended several schools - Temuka, Seadown, Waimataitai, and back to Temuka. His brother Eldred also served in World War One. In January 1930, less than a month after marrying, Jack murdered his wife. He was then thwarted by his brother Eldred in an attempted suicide. He was believed to be worrying innecessarily about his financial position.
