Biographical Notes

Francis Patrick KELLY, known as Frank, was born on 15 August 1883 at Timaru, to Richard KELLY and his wife Elizabeth née CARROLL. He joined A Company, 46th Reinforcements of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. At the time of enlisting he was a draper employed by the Canterbury Farmers Co-op at Timaru. On being granted a certificate of Leave he was described as of good character. Martin KELLY, a brother of Frank, was killed in action in 1917. An older brother, Richard, was listed on the Reserves Roll, being married with three children.
