Biographical Notes

John DAY, known as Jack was the son of Robert William and Mary (née LUSEY) DAY. His brother, Robert Joseph DAY, and his cousins, John Arthur SULLIVAN and Victor Joseph SULLIVAN, also served in WWI. Jack first appealed his call-up, saying that he was the only son left to support his mother. He believed that Robert would be back from the front in 1917. Their father had died in 1899 at Tekapo.
