Biographical Notes

Len was originally from Padfield in Derbyshire UK, where he worked as a farm labourer and also a cotton piecer in his local cotton mill. He emigrated to New Zealand, coming to Timaru where he worked for S Knox. He fought at Gallipoli, but was injured a and sent back to the UK. He was subsequently discharged in 1916 (in England) due to ill health and went on to marry a girl called Martha and is buried in Glossop cemetery. Before emigrating to New Zealand had also served as a member of the British Army.
