Biographical Notes

George William Henry CAMPBELL, born on 8 November 1878 at Timaru, was the son of Hugh and Charlotte CAMPBELL. George left Timaru on 23 August 1915 as part of South Canterbury's quota for the 20th Reinforcements. The men were entertained at the Stafford Tea Rooms by the Ladies Committee of the South Canterbury Patriotic War Relief Society, before assembling at the Drill shed and being addressed by the Mayor, the M.P. and the Rev. Rodgers. They then marched to the Railway Station. He was to return to New Zealand by the "Corinthic" (Draft 236), due at Lyttelton on 22 April 1919.
