Award Circumstances and Date

For conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty. During the operations near Grevilliers and Bancourt from the 24th August to 1st September 1918, he was in command of a section which he lead with great ability. In the face of heavy fire he set a splendid example to all ranks of determination and courage. His coolness was very marked and he was of great asssitance to his platooon commander. (London Gazette, 11 February 1919, p2144, Rec No.2623)
