Award Circumstances and Date

DCM: "For Conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 5th/6th October, 1918, near Crevecoeur. He did fine work in carrying and caring for wounded under intense artillery and machine-gun fire. Notwithstanding that he was twice blown off his feet by bursting shells, he continued his work until completed”, London Gazette 10 Jan 1920, p481 MM: “For gallantry and devotion to duty, especially opposite Warneton. During the day of 4th August 1917 and the whole of the night 4th/5th August 1917 Rifleman Langrish, who is a Stretcher Bearer, tended to wounded under shell fire which was at times intense. He made three trips to the regimental aid post with stretcher cases – a distance of 4 miles – exposed to fire for the greatest part of the journey, and in most trying weather conditions which made the track almost impassable to even lightly equipped infantry. His courage and determination were undoubtedly the means of saving a number of lives. During the Messines operations he personally organised carrying parties and displayed conspicuous gallantry as a Stretcher Bearer. He has always show initiative and a high sense of duty”, London Gazette 1 Jan 1918, p77
