Hospitals, Wounds, Diseases and Illnesses

18 May 1916 admitted to No 20 General Hospital. Wounded in the Field on 1st October 1916. Admitted to North Field Ambulance on 7 October 1916. He rejoined his Unit before being sent to Hospital on 14 October 1916. 22 October 1916 admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station. November 1916 in hospital at Boulogne, with bronchitis (progressing favourably). 19 November 1916 embarked on Hospital Ship "West Australia" for England. 24 November 1918 admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital at Brockenhurst and on 4 December transferred to the enteric depot, Waddingham, suffering from typhoid. In December 1916 in hospital - not severe case. Again on 6 February 1917 he was transferred to hospital at Hornchurch.

Biographical Notes

Son of Edwin (Edward) & Ellen WILLIAMS, of Temuka. George was educated at Temuka School. On 2 September 1916 George forfeited 14 days ordinary pay and on 2 February 1917 he forfeited 3 days pay for being absent. On 17 September 1917 George was transferred to the N.Z. Discharge Department at Torquay. On 24 October 1917 he was classified unfit by the Medical Board and placed on N.Z. Rolls. He subsequently embarked from Plymouth for New Zealand on the Tainui on 2 November 1917. Married Catherine Sarah Olivia HUNT in 1919. Despatched to camp at Trentham in November 1915. Attested for a second time on 1 November 1919.
