Biographical Notes

Son of Henry William and Mary Ann Shirley (married Jun 1879, Godstone). Sydney emigrated to NZ in 1910 on the Ruahine. Other brothers left in England enlisted in the British Army and all survived. Sydney served in Gallipoli was hospitalised with Scarlet Fever. Served in France and died from wounds caused by a gunshot wound to the chest.
