Biographical Notes

Kingsley John McIntosh, also known as James Kingsley McIntosh, was the fifth son of Alexander John and Jane (née Harpur) McIntosh. He was educated at Waimataitai, Timaru Main and Waihao Native schools. Kingsley returned from the war suffering from shell shock. On 24 May 1918 he had a motor cycle accident on the Pareora Road and died in the Timaru Hospital on 3 June, aged 23 years. His brother, Stanley Herbert McIntosh died on 29 March 1918 in France. The Methodist Church of Timaru placed a handsome window in the Bank Street Church as a memorial for the war victims of the congregations. Apart from the names of the fallen appearing on the window, the names of all who served were inscribed in a book which was to be preserved in the Church. Included in the names was that of Kingsley John McIntosh. Kinglsey did die before war’s end but not as a result of his service. .
