Biographical Notes

Julius McLaughlan Hogben OBE was a solictor who didn’t appear to actually have gone to war, as the following report indicates:

“Of the three sons of Mr George Hogben (late Director of Education), of Khandallah, who enlisted, two have been killed in action—Sergeant George H. Hogben in 1915, and Lance-Corpl.

Herbert Hogben last month. The youngest son (Private E. Noel Hogben, of the Machine-Gun Corps), who left with the 26th Reinforcement and on arrival in England was transferred to the 25th, is now at the front.”   (Marlborough

Express, Volume LII, Issue 87, 18 April 1918, Page 5; Evening Post, Volume XCV, Issue 88, 13 April 1918, Page 4)
