Biographical Notes

Son of Samuel and Mary Jane Hawthorne nee Gray (married 1893) of Kurow, Otago. He had two sisters, Myrtle Margaret b.1894 and Mary (Mamie) b 1895. His birth was recorded in BDM records as 1898, but declared his birth at enlistment as 1896.
