Biographical Notes

Son of Thomas and Helen Baird Hall, Arney Road, Remuera, Auckland.

Lionel's brother, Vincent John Baird Hall (1891-1915) died at Gallipoli, while another brother, Mervyn Thomas Baird Hall, also served but returned home. Mervyn later gifted a prize for senior history for Napier Boys High School in honour of his brothers. Many years later a former student purchased one of Lionel's medals that was for sale, and donated it to the school, where it is now mounted and displayed in the school library (2019).
