Biographical Notes

Herbert James GIBSON was a son of Joseph and Margaret Ann (née FOX) GIBSON. His brother Sydney Harold GIBSON died of wounds in 1917 and another brother, Ernest Stanley GIBSON also served in WWI. He was in the Second South Canterbury Company under commanding officer Captain D. Grant. In September 1915 he was admitted to the Military Hospital, Bethnal Green, London. Herbert was a member of the Star Football Club. At the club's annual meeting in April 1915 his name was among those forwarded to the South Canterbury Rugby Union for the compilation of a New Zealand Roll of Honour.
