Biographical Notes

Leonard James Bathurst Hammond was the son of George and Evangeline Ellen (Eva, née Dean) Hammond. All five sons saw war service. L. J. B. Hammond served in both the South African War and World War One. His eldest brother, George Richard Hammond, served in the South African War. And brothers Arthur Hammond, Francis (Frank) Hammond and Harold Hammond also served in World War One.
