Biographical Notes

Ernest Matthew TWOMEY was the son of Jeremiah Matthew and Teresa Mary (nee HUGHES) TWOMEY, of Temuka. His father was a Member of the Legislative Council. His brother Francis Hugh TWOMEY was killed in action in 1917 in the Palestine. Another brother, Brian Leo TWOMEY also served in WWI. Matthew received his education at the Temuka Catholic School and his senior education at the Temuka School and, on leaving school, he was employed in the Temuka Leader office. Matthew was resident at the War Veterans Home in Levin when he died.
