Biographical Notes

Michael was the fifth child (and third son) of James & Bridget Duggan, born at Popotunoa (the former name for Clinton). Michael's birth was registered under the surname "Dugan" with NZ Births, Deaths, and Marriages in 1889, despite his service records recording his birth as 29 July 1890.

The Otago Witness reported that Michael was wounded in 1915, noting that: "Trooper M. A. Duggan, of the Eighth Regiment, South Canterbury Mounted Rifles, is the third son of Mrs Duggan, Knapdale, and is 24 years of age. Prior to his departure with the Main Expeditionary Force, he resided in the Waimate district, where he followed the occupation of engine-driver. Trooper Duggan was wounded in the knee on July 26."

After the war Michael married Freda Thistle Wallace after the war in 1930.
